The V700 is 4.0 Dmax as well with a substantial bump in the optical resolution. So, which is really comparable to my old 4990? I don't really need the extra resolution since I am scanning 97.2% medium format anyway I am more worried about the Dmax or optical density- my 4990 was rated at 4.0 Dmax, but the V500 and 600 are both only 3.4 Dmax. which is much more than I remember paying for my 4990, and much more than I can spare at the moment! However, I am in Germany and it seems one's lucky to find a V700 under 500€.
According to the Epson website, the V700 has now replaced the 4990. I'm looking to replace my old Epson 4990.
